Bisbee and 31 Weeks Just Around the Corner

Friday night Drew and I left work early and headed to Bisbee for a last chance getaway/late Valentine's celebration. Drew made reservations for us to stay at the Shady Dell RV Park. At the risk of hyperbole, this place is brilliant. The owners of the Shady Dell have assembled a troop of vintage 1950s trailers and fixed them up while retaining a 50s charm. Drew and I did not stay in a trailer, however. Rather Drew reserved the Rita D., a 1950s Chris Craft yacht that was renovated and converted into desert lodging. It was pretty sweet staying here for the night.

The Rita D.

Here is a picture of the breakfast nook. Drew and I sat here and played Carcassonne, which was given to us by Lisa, Ken and Katie and is currently my favorite game. I love that Drew and I can play without getting mad at each other. This is unlike our previous favorite game 'Killer Bunnies', which is hard on couples and should only be played with groups of 4 or more.

The living room on the boat.

I was shocked to see this picture. I still feel like 'me' most of the time so it is bizarre to see a picture where my belly is so huge. I guess that explains the back pain.

The Shady Dell also includes some larger trailers. This is the only one with a shower and it is referred to as the Mansion.

We almost stayed here in the Tiki Bus. The Rita D. won because it included a free bottle of Champagne that we took with us to drink after the baby is born.

The other Bisbee highlights included dinner at Cafe Roka and hanging out at the 'Saloon'. I drank Beck's near beer and was pleased that when given a beer taste test, Drew couldn't distinguish near bear from Miller Lite.

Anyway, on Tuesday I have another doctor's appointment and next Wednesday I hit the 31 week mark. Everything is pretty much moving along normally so hopefully that will continue. The baby is moving around a lot and so far his most active times seem to be between 4 and 5am (yikes!), 7 and 8am, dinner time and between 9 and 10pm. The baby books say that by now this will correlate with his epochs of high activity after he is born. That is a little scary but I guess no one has a baby because they want to sleep more.

Ready for Parenthood?

Scout vomited on me tonight. I was trying to take a nap and she walked up and puked on my arm and chest. This has never happened before, and is more evidence that our dogs know something is up and are preparing us for the baby by acting like infants.

In other news, my glucose tolerance test came back normal. I am relieved that not having gestational diabetes means that I will not have to curb my new pregnancy-induced cake habit.

29 weeks and the Baby Shower

Today I am 29 weeks pregnant. Only 77 more days to go (plus or minus a week or so)! I also had another doctor's appointment today, as I am now seeing Dr. Kazemi-Dunn every 2 weeks. This appointment inlcuded the glucose tolerance test. Arg...the crap a pregnant lady has to put up with. I had to drink this overly sweet drink that tasted like extra-swleet kool-aid. In fact, it was so sweet that it made my eyes water. I will get the results back tomorrow. The good news is that I will not have to go for another sonogram. Everything looks good with the baby and my OB will probably just do one more sonogram in the office right before delivery to get a size estimate. My weight is now up by 24 pounds so I am on target to gain about 35 pounds overall, which is average.

In other news, my mom was in town over the weekend so she could be here for Drew's and my baby shower. Jenne and Fiona hosted at our house and we (my mom included) had a great time. The shower was made extra special by my Aunt Susan being in town from Portland. I hadn't seen her since getting pregnant so it was wonderful to have her around. She also made us the most amazing baby book ever. Thank God for my Aunt Susan. Drew and I are not good at these things. We were married for 2 years before we put up any wedding pictures, so this was the only way that our baby was going to get a book. And the one Susan made for us is the most incredible baby book I have ever seen. She even included a glue stick so Drew and I have no excuse to not get the pictures together and in the right place.

Here is just a sample page of my Aunt's craft genius. Trust me, the picture does not do it justice.

Anyway, Jenne did an amazing job with the food and decorations for the shower, including a delicous jungle-themed cake that was half vanilla and half chocolate. Because I actually enjoy watching people drink and I do not believe in dry gatherings, regardless of the occasion and my ability to consume, there was beer and wine at our shower as well. I drank sparkling juice out of a wine glass along with the three other pregnant ladies that attended. It was great have everyone over, and Drew and I recieved a lot of helpful and really fun baby gear.

Our next door nieghbor Michelle and our friend Penny showing off their bellies along with me. They are both 8 weeks ahead of me but my 29 week bump is holding its own. This is a little terrifying.

At the shower, Fiona learned that she liked Riley, and...

My belly!

After the shower, my mom was busy making this quilt for the baby. It turned out great, and I cannot believe she got it so perfect in a single weekend.

We wrapped up my mom's visit with a trip to the Tucson Botanical Garden and the 'Butterfly Magic' exhibit. For lack of a better statement, 'it was magic'...

Update, Part II: Day 1 of the Third Trimester

This is my belly. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

Today I am 28 weeks along! Only 3 more months to go. So far, so good. I am having some heartburn but it has only been really bad a couple of times. Additionally, my lower back pain has also been tolerable (knock on wood). It is getting harder to sleep at night but I can still jog a little (in 1 mile, or sometimes less, increments).

Yesterday we had another sonogram and the choriod plexus cysts were completely gone. The baby is still measuring on the large side, and poor me he has my big head. He is in the 79% for size and was estimated to wieigh about 2lb 9oz as of February 2nd. He is currently head up, which annoys me because at all of the other sonograms he has been head down and now I have to worry about him turning around. At least there is still plenty of time. My weight is up by 22lbs and my belly in currently 41 inches around. I think this is about 11 inches larger than it was 7 months ago.

Here are some long overdue pictures from the sonograms we had at 21 and 24 weeks. I still have not scanned in the most recent photos, but I will try to remember to post those later.

His cute little feet at 21 weeks.

He is indeed a boy and a thumb sucker (21 weeks).

His spine at 21 weeks.

His 21 week profile.

His foot at 24 weeks. It looks about the same as 3 weeks earlier but trust me it is bigger. I can tell when he kicks my bladder.

His bum at 24 weeks and more confirmation that he is a boy.
