Quick update

Dear Blog,

I know I have been neglecting you but there has just been too much going on to find the time to organize my thoughts, and honestly after 330 pages of thesis I have been sick of writing. Anyway, Drew and I just got back from Birmingham and Atlanta. While we where gone the baby birds learned to fly and left with their mom. I was sad to see them go but happy that Scout did not eat them. Also, I defended my thesis FINALLY! It went well and there were only a few minor revisions that I am hoping to finish tomorrow. In other news, Drew and I sold our condo to my parents who are planning to move to Tucson next winter! I am so excited about this and the prospect of moving into a larger home where no bikes are stored in the livingroom. But the past few weeks have not all been filled with good news. The day before my thesis defense poor Riley broke her toe in a failed atempt to jump over the side of the wash. As you can see from the X ray below one of her toes is not like the others. While Drew and I were in the South, my parents kindly stayed to watch her until Lan could take over. Poor Riley has a full splint on her leg and she moves around like her front right leg has been replaced with a wooden peg. Otherwise, she does not seem to be in any pain and her spirits are high. Thats all for now.

New Baby Birds!

I got home from work tonight and Drew surprised me with this picture! My momma bird hatched her babies and they are really cute. From the looks of it they probably hatched several days ago but I had not noticed. I am glad that my watering has not hurt them.

I am interpreting this as a good sign. Silly, I know but I am an overly sensitive pattern detector (which is science-speak for superstitious). I am hoping that this is a sign of good fortune for my dissertation defense on Friday and that the rest of 2009 is going to be better than the first 1/4 of it, which has been pretty miserable for me.
