Update, Part I
1/24/10 snow in the mountains around Tucson. I love this time of year for this reason.
No I did not forget that I had a blog, I just have been without my computer for almost 2 months. At the beginning of December I spilled water on my laptop. Luckily it is a University computer (I purchased it with my training grant) so their insurance paid for a new motherboard, and a new hard drive. I also had a new operating system installed and I am waiting on a new battery. Basically I have a brand new computer for about the same cost it would have been to actually buy a new computer immediately after the water incident. Oh well.
Over the past two months a lot has been going on. We have had 2 sonograms (pictures later). We are having a boy! Unfortunately, at the 21 week sono the doctor spotted choroid plexus cysts in our baby's brain. This stirred up quite a panic in Drew and I. Our doctor did not know very much about them and could not give us any reassuring stats. A weekend of research and another sono later we figured out that these things are very common (our next door neighbor's baby has them, not to mention all the other friends of ours whose baby had them or know someone with a baby that had them). They are also under reported because they are transient and some doctors do not even notify their patients about them. Anyway, these cysts are already almost gone and do not interfere with normal function at all. They are actually more like little blisters caused by pockets of cerebrospinal fluid in the choroid plexus (brain snot that makes CSF). They typically show up in the 2nd trimester during rapid brain development and are gone by the third trimester. So things are going more smoothly in baby land now. We have also finished the nursery (pictures later).
I should get back to work now so that's all for "Update, Part I". Part II coming soon.
